Welcome to our Blog, all about us and our lovely art and craft studio
Here is a short Blog about us and how we came to get an art stuidio, we hope to add many more blogs giving you further insight into our creative hub!
Having moved to Exmouth only a year ago we already love how Scenic, Arty and Vibrant the town is. With our past experience of owning an Art Cafe in the Midlands, we decided to do it all over again. This time with a stronger emphasis on events as this is what we enjoy the most
Events
Our main and most popular event is Wooden Duck Painting which is a 3 hour event for all ages and abilities. What has really surprised us is how much the event is enjoyed by Adults!
Think this might be because it helps to feel young and care free again even if only for a few hours!
Although we get children too we would say it’s grown ups mainly! We love how engrossed everyone gets with ideas on how to paint their Duck, we provide lots of examples and inspiration.
Everyone’s finished Duck gets photographed and added into our ‘Book of fame’. This is then available for other people to copy should they wish to! We even give certificates stating the Duck has been created at Arty Boat, the persons name and of course the Ducks name!
The session time of 3 hours goes so quickly. People often comment how therapeutic and relaxing the event. Quite easy to loose themselves in creativity and chat while switching off from everything else for a while.
One of the most common things we hear at the start of the session is ‘I’m not arty’ I don’t know what to do’ I’m sure it will look terrible’. However by the end of the session everyone is amazed by what they have achieved and surprises themselves.
We make the whole process very fun, laid back and easy!
During the session we also offer delicious cakes, or even afternoon tea and we now have an alcohol licence so Prosecco and other beverages can be enjoyed.
We have only been open for two months however it has gone so fast and been so enjoyable. Our hardest problem has been advertising. We try our best to keep getting the word out and now word of mouth from past visitors is greatly helping.
We have lots of other events too such as Wine Tasting, Sip & Paint, Clay, Pottery Painting, Decoupage , Pebble Art, Glass Workshops, Jewellery Making and more
Often we work with lots of local artists and other businesses as we love collaborating and keeping things local
So far it’s all got off to a great start and been a crazy whirlwind, but all in a very positive way!
This is our first blog but hope to do many more and go into more detail of what to expect at each event. So watch this space!
About Ashley
On a more personal note Ashley has worked many different jobs from training staff at care homes, plastering, maintenance and more. Turning 50 this year, which seems kinda crazy. One noticeable trait of Ashley is that he is always trying to make people laugh.
Ashley has always been really creative and arty, always wanting to give anything a try. With a mom who is a florist clearly got the creative genes! Aside from work Ashley loves going out socialising as much as possible, sunbathing, cooking and travelling.
About Tina
Tina, age 48 and have worked as a school teaching assistant, bank clerk and online marketing and promotions. Had hoped to go into teaching but had a car accident 8 years ago. This led to a neck problem and neurological disease Dystonia
Dystonia is very unheard of and quite rare but it causes involuntary movements, pain and head tilting, this greatly affected confidence and put a sudden end to wanting to be a teacher.
Also led to being nervous about working at all, lacking confidence worrying what people notice and think.
Trying to get some confidence back but I would be lying if I said it was easy, I’m just ever hopeful that one day I might wake up and the Dystonia has gone!
Working within an art and crafts environment certainly helps take my mind of things for a while though!
Aside from that love yoga, being in the sun at any given opportunity, and on the beach, so living in Devon has become a dream come true
Oh and also I should mention we have 3 grown up children, 2 dogs and 2 cats who make everyday fun, always bringing smiles to our faces.
Hope you have enjoyed reading this first blog and that you will come see us sometime
