FAQ – Fabulous Days Out & Great Times At Our Quirky Venue

Frequently asked questions

Looking for answers about pottery painting, wooden duck painting, creative workshops, or fun indoor things to do in Exmouth on a rainy day? Here’s everything you need to know before you visit Arty Boat.

What is Arty Boat?+
Arty Boat is a relaxed, boutique creative studio in Exmouth offering pottery painting, wooden painting (including our much-loved ducks), adult evenings and seasonal creative workshops. Sessions are fully hosted, beginner-friendly and designed for ages 5 to 105.
What are fun and unusual things to do in Exmouth?+
If you’re looking for something different, Arty Boat offers hands-on creative sessions that are ideal for families, couples, friends and visitors. We’re a calm, memorable alternative to the usual day-out activities and a favourite for indoor activities in Exmouth — especially on rainy days.
Are there creative workshops in Exmouth for families and kids?+
Yes. We welcome children from age 5+. Our sessions last up to 3 hours and are a seated, immersive experience — younger children often find this tricky. We don’t have space for pushchairs and we do not have baby-changing facilities.
Can adults book pottery painting or creative workshops?+
Absolutely. Adults often visit for pottery painting, wooden duck painting, evening sessions, creative time with friends or a relaxed date day — no experience needed.
Do you offer activities for couples or adult-only sessions?+
Yes — our sessions are ideal for couples, adult groups and creative catch-ups. We also offer selected adults-only evening sessions where you can relax, paint and enjoy coastal vibes.
Are you near Devon Cliffs?+
Yes — Arty Boat is just a 10-minute drive from Devon Cliffs Holiday Park in Exmouth. Many families visit us during their Devon Cliffs holiday to paint wooden ducks or pottery and take home a special holiday keepsake.
Do I need to book in advance?+
Yes — we operate as a booking-only studio and sessions often fill in advance, especially weekends and school holidays. Booking secures your seats for the session.
How do I book a session at Arty Boat?+
The easiest way is to book online via our website booking calendar. If you’re planning a group, party or special date, you can also message us via WhatsApp and we’ll help where we can.
How does pricing work for wooden duck painting and pottery painting?+
Pricing has two simple parts:

1) Reservation (paid at booking): £3.50 per person.
This includes a reserved seat, drink and biscuits during your session.
This reservation is separate from the item you choose to paint.

Please book a place for everyone attending.
Adult, child, painting or not — everyone coming into the studio must have a booked place (£3.50 per person) so we can ensure there is enough space for all guests.

2) Choose & pay for your item during your visit:
Most items range from £12–£35 (wooden ducks typically £26–£35), depending on what you choose.
Do we take our creations home the same day?+
Yes. All creations are taken home the same day with a protective finish applied in-studio. We do not kiln-fire pottery. Items are decorative and not food safe.
Do you provide food and drinks?+
Yes — refreshments are included during your session, and we also offer optional cake and afternoon tea upgrades on selected dates. Vegan and gluten-free options are available where possible — please message us in advance with any requirements.
Can we bring our own drinks (BYOB)?+
BYOB is available for selected adult-only evening sessions. Please check the individual event details when booking.
Do you offer parties or group bookings?+
Yes — we host children’s parties, birthdays, hen parties and private group bookings. If you don’t see what you need, just get in touch and we’ll help where we can.
What are your opening hours?+
We operate mainly by booking.
  • Term time: Saturdays 10am–7pm, Sundays 11am–5pm
  • School holidays: Open daily 10am–4pm
For weekday term-time bookings, please message us via WhatsApp.
Where are you located?+
We’re at 46 Exeter Road, Exmouth Town Centre, close to the train station, bus routes and several public car parks. The nearest is on Union Street behind Café Nero.
How can I contact you?+
The quickest way is via the green WhatsApp button on our website. You can also email us or call 07496 350336.
